The December/issue of the “Schererville Crossroards” flyer they send out with most residents utility bills highlighted some great news for the town and Northwest Indiana’s Region as a whole. The Town Council has put together their new ordinance which establishes two funding options for applicants that are interested in facade improvement grants for their commercial buildings if they are located downtown.

With the new ordinance for funding options, we will be seeing downtown Schererville get a brand new face-lift in the near future as businesses improve exterior features.

Downtown Schererville Businesses Offered Facade Grants

Other towns such as Crown Point, Lansing, and Hobart have all done relatively equal grants as well. As many have seen, the results of these grants lead to many businesses offering a much better look for local residents and people coming from out of town to shop, spend time with family, or just drive through. These grants allow an opportunity to improve the look of the town hopes of bringing in more people and eventually more business.

“Applicants can seek matching rants, the minimum amount being $500 and the maximum not exceeding $15,000. The second option is a facade incentive that could provide an amount equal to twenty-five percent of the total cost, the amount however  not exceeding $50,000. The downtown corridor is in a tax increment financing or TIF district and the town has approved TIF policy guidelines, offering other incentives that businesses or developers can use to aid in financing redevelopment projects”

This is all very exciting to hear. We look forward to seeing improvements to the historic Downtown Schererville!
